Description
This interactive workshop on Effective Communication introduces middle school students and educators to foundational communication skills using a framework based on Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication. The premise of the workshop is that every meaningful communication is rooted in expressing feelings and addressing underlying needs. Through engaging activities, participants will gain practical tools to enhance their communication and emotional intelligence, both in the classroom and in their daily lives.
Workshop Overview:
Understanding and Accessing Your Feelings: Students and educators will learn how to recognize and label their emotions, an essential step in effective communication. This section will introduce simple strategies for self-awareness and emotional clarity.
Connecting Needs to Feelings: This portion of the workshop focuses on how unfulfilled needs are often the source of emotional responses. Participants will explore the link between feelings and needs, which can help to better understand both their own reactions and those of others.
Conflict Resolution Role-play: Participants will engage in role-playing activities where they practice identifying and addressing the feelings and needs of both parties in a conflict. These scenarios will reflect common situations students face, helping them to apply the skills in real-world settings.
